Philosophy
The druidic philosophy can be summarized in one word:
Balance. The entire universe functions on the principle of balance. Birth balances death, night balances day, Order balances Chaos.
The druidic way is to facilitate balance by dealing with those things that cause imbalance. In the natural world, there is no imbalance. It is sentient beings that tend to tip the scales one way or another. Because of our ancient knowlegde of the inner workings of the universe, it is our responsibility to act on behalf of the divine source and restore balance.
Examples of Imbalance
There are many things that can cause imbalance. The following are just a few examples:
Order and Chaos guilds - represent a conscious effort to facilitate one idea over the other instead of embracing both philosophies equally. These guilds also tend to recruit people who would not otherwise choose one idea over the other.
Summoning of Demons - the very nature of demons is that of Evil, an idea created by sentient beings. Mages who summon demons are pulling this force from its prison and manifesting it on the physical plane. In contrast, the summoning of elementals does not tip the balance even one one-thousandth as much. Though they strongly represent one element, they are neutral entities. They are the essence of the natural world, unlike demons. Evil is not natural.
Any person attacking a Druid - because Druids seek to facilitate balance, anyone who attempts to kill a druid is countering the facilitation of balance - and therefore countering balance. This unquestionably leads to imbalance. There are those who may doubt this reasoning. Allow me to illustrate:
Imagine a stone bridge crossing a ravine. On one side of the ravine is a lake, on the other an orchard. The bridge continues to stand even though time wears away at it. It is built very soundly, and its Builder replaces crumbling stone with new stone when needed. Though they depend on it, the creatures of the world do not even notice the bridge as they pass over it because it has been there so long. Then one day, a malign individual destroys the bridge by chiseling out one of the keystones. The creatures of the world can no longer cross the ravine, and perish for lack of either food or water. The malign individual perishes in the collapse of the bridge. Although the individual did not directly cause the deaths of the creatures of the world or the destruction of the entire bridge (which was caused by gravity), the system is destroyed. The individual surely would not have committed the act if he knew his own death was certain! The stones were certainly aware of their function of holding up the bridge, as they had done it since the beginning of time. That is the reason for which the Builder assigned them the task.
Restoring Balance
